History of Valentine Day

Valentine Day is celebrated on 14th February every year. As far as History of Valentine Day is concerned, opinions of different experts vary from one another. There are many experts, who believe that that it is first originated from St. Valentine. St. Valentine was a Roman and he was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He was killed on February 14th, 269 A.D., the very same day that had been devoted to loved ones. Some experts also stated that St. Valentine wrote a farewell note for the jailer's own daughter, who had become his friend there, and also signed it as "From Your Valentine". But mostly the story tells us that St. Valentine devorted his entire life as a priest during the reign of Claudius. Emperor Claudius then ordered his men to arrest Valentine and sent him to the jail for defying him.

Then year by year, February 14th the symbol for love and love couples started exchanging love messages in the memory of St. Valentine. 14th February was marked by sharing love, sending poems & messages and simple gifts such as red flowers and cakes.

Now, Valentine Day is as popular as Christmas and New Year all over the world but very few people know why Valentine Day is celebrated. But Varun Gupta has tried his best to understand the History of Valentine Day.
